It's easy to assume the worst of someone like Shura, who doesn't seem to take much seriously, lies about her age, and has even been known drink on the job. But as the saying goes, still water runs deep. Take a few steps back. Some generations ago, one Kirigakure Tatsuko made a contract with with the immortal demon Hachirotaro. In exchange for power, Tatsuko and her descendants would be cursed to die once they turned thirty and that they would bear one child for Hachiro before their death. Said child was cursed to look exactly as Tatsuko had. Why? Because an immortal demon needs an immortal girlfriend, that's why. This was the life Shura was born into, to learn the Kirigakure style, become as strong as Tatsuko, bear a child, then die before she could become old and unsightly. Without a name, stuck in a frozen world that she despised, Shura couldn't understand why she existed at all. Unlike her predecessors, Shura was able to escape Hachiro's territory after being rescued by Shiro Fujimoto. But even with her newfound freedom, Shura still couldn't figured out just why she was alive. Furthermore, she was going to die anyway. Why should she tie herself down to something as abstract as a decent life? She was going to have fun with her few years. So she became feckless person, living a casual life, not particularly caring about the future. Why should she worry about it when she wasn't going to get very far? Why make bonds and develop intimate relationships if she was just going to die on them anyway? So what if she was sleeping around with random strangers--reputation doesn't matter to a dead woman. And if she's blunt and straight to the point, well who doesn't just want to cut straight to the chase sometimes? There are feelings underneath her tough exterior, of course. She may not be kind, but she does care, even if she tries not to show it. Even if the Exwire kids can be a little annoying sometimes, she doesn't want anything to actually hurt them. When she does start to care about someone, she feels it deeply and intensely. Though Shiro was largely negligent when it came to caring for her--though for a good reason, considering that Shura wanted to sleep with him from the get go and she was only nine at the time...--, she was attached to him and felt betrayed by him, first when he told her to leave cram school, then again when she discovered that he was raising the son of Satan in secret. She's teased Yukio mercilessly since he was young, and when they meet again years later, she's quick to resume taunting and playing with him. But beneath that, she's paid careful attention to him and bluntly warns him of the danger he puts himself in by keeping everything inside. With Rin, while Shura was perfectly ready to kill him as the son of Satan, but she is won over by his assertion that he will become the paladin and defeat Satan. So maybe she doesn't really believe his outlandish claim, but still, she recognizes the resolve behind that claim, and suddenly, he's no longer the son of Satan to her, but the son of the man she idolized for so long. Whether she likes it or not, these two boys occupy a rather large space in her heart. So much so that she has no issue with confronting Mephisto about his intentions regarding Rin after the defeat of the Impure King. During their fight with Hachiro, Shura is beyond willing to give up her life if it means that Yukio and Rin come out of it safe and unharmed. And about being lazy... it is true. Shura isn't fond of having to take charge or take responsibility for anything. After being named the captain of the (tokyo reinforcements), she's complains about it to most anyone who will listen. She is, however, incredibly capable. Her whining ends once they're in Kyoto, where she shows herself to actually be a competent leader. She's sharp and perceptive, noticing the smallest details. For instance, she's completely aware of Mephisto and Amaimon's presence during the summer training camp. There's a reason why she's a member of the Angelic Legion in spite of her attitude. She's quick, strong, and understands how to work in a team. It's pretty much overnight that her worldview changes. The contract with Hachiro is nullified by Rin and Yukio's efforts (and maybe Shima just a little, but only just a little), and suddenly, Shura has a whole lifetime in front of her. And damn it, she's going to do it right, deciding to leave behind her history of hanging around muscleheads and drinking all night long. Well, she's going to try. It's a big change, she's going to strike out a few times. But now, without a death sentence hanging over her head, she no longer has a reason to hide her devotion to Rin or Yukio. Mephisto may have been able to scare her the first time she confronted him about his plans, but the second time, she has no issuing lobbing her sword at Mephisto, going so far as to tell him that next time, she won't miss. The Okumura brothers are her world, everything else be damned, which is a pretty big step for someone who's resisted any kind of attachment her entire life. She's growing, though her new life has only just begun. Abilities: -Ninjitsu Shura is a master of the Kirigakure style of fighting. With it, she's fast and hard hitting, though she's no longer as powerful without Hachiro's contract or without something else possessing the blade. She's also pretty good at skulking around. -Upper First Class Exorcist Shura has obtained four out of the five Meister titles (Knight, Tamer, Aria, and Doctor) and has extensive knowledge and experience when it comes to fighting demons, including an extensive knowledge of demon strengths and weaknesses, sutras and chants, a knowledge of how to treat demon-related injuries, and expertise on summoning demons. The series hasn't gotten super specific about some of her skills, but to get a little more in depth... KNIGHT: The knight Meister is pretty straightforward, someone fighting demons on the front lines. Shura is a master of the Kirigakure style, which has been shown to be fast and hard hitting during her fight with Rin. A lot of Shura's strength in battle can be contributed to the power she was granted through her contract with Hachiro. While she previously had some regenerative abilities through the contract as well, her own strength is the same as an average human who's received similar physical training. With Hachiro's contract, Shura was able to use techniques like Serpent Fang, which generated air projectiles that she could use, and Gara Gara, which could cause a demon to temporarily lose his demonic powers. She could also transform her sword into a longer, split form that was substantially stronger than its initial form. Without the contract, Shura lost a substantial amount of power, enough that she requested to be demoted. She retained Fang and the more mundane aspects of the Kirigakure style after breaking from Hachiro, but without a demon possessing her sword, she is unable to use techniques such as Serpent Fang or Gara Gara. The difference in her power can be seen during her fight with a cyclops--on her own, she's able to partially disable the cyclops, but it isn't until she's loaned the power of General Frost that she's able to defeat the demon. It is possible for another demon to possess Fang, but that would probably something to be obtained as a reward rather than just happening as a lark. ARIA: Someone who fights demons by reciting holy scriptures. There's a few times when she's using these set of skills, mostly in a support role, such as when she prepared defenses against Amaimon's attacks in the forest by forming a protective barrier, as well when restraining Rin when he loses his temper and shows his flames, and later she's able to help boost the power of the fires used to fight the Impure King as well as support Suguro's fire barrier during the same incident. Unless she's going up against a demon from her world, most of the fatal verses and other sutras are going to be either pretty well useless or not very effective. Without the support from Hachiro's contract and her familiars, it's more difficult for her to raise these barrier and they will take more energy out of her to maintain them. TAMER: Someone who can summon and control demons. As part of her contract with Hachiro, Shura had several snake familiars that could assist in tracking and other tasks, but since her contract has been broken, she no longer has access to these. She can assist in summoning rituals because she has the knowledge and experience, such as when she helped summon Ucchusma in Kyoto, but she would have to form a new contract if she wanted to try summoning something for herself. DOCTOR: The general idea behind this Meister is someone who knows how to treat Temptaint and other demon-related injuries. It's confirmed in the beginning of the Kyoto arc when a section of the Northern Cross campus appears to have been contaminated by Coal Tars that Shura has this Meister and should go help with the problem because of it, but it's not something that the series goes into much detail about. CARNIVAL↴ Soul Colour: Red Ideal Jobs: Bouncer, Patrol, Thief, Scout, or Mercenary Relevant Experience: Shura's spent her life training to master her ancestor's fighting style and fighting demons paid her rent before she ended up here. She also has previous experience in scouting and sneaking around. Let's be honest, she'll complain no matter what work she gets. Reason for Joining: Shura managed to pay the admission and didn't fall for any of the worker's tricks at the games or concessions. She's smarter than that! But she did happen to catch the exciting part of a show while snooping around, and since she was only going to peek in for a second, she didn't worry about buying a ticket for that... o o p s.
